Justin Kan

Entrepreneur, Vlogger

Star of www.Justin.tv, a website created by the founders of the calendar Web site Kiko.com. The site uses a mobile camera (not a webcam) attached to the cap of one of the founders, Justin Kan. The camera streams continuous live video and audio of what Kan is seeing and hearing and is the foundation of a new platform for live online video.

Justin.tv went live at midnight on March 19, 2007, and, according to the site, Kan will wear the camera "24 hours a day, 7 days a week." It has since reached a peak simultaneous viewership of 19,000 viewers. He was interviewed by Tom Merritt on the first episode of CNET Live. Justin.tv has been compared to Edtv, Being John Malkovich and The Truman Show.

Currently the setup is using one wireless Evolution-Data Optimized networking card and a wearable computer (laptop in a backpack - Sony Vaio TX currently preferred) the video is streamed at ten frames per second from Kan's location using a commercial off the shelf product from on2 www.on2.com. Justin describes what he is doing as "lifecasting." In June 2007, Justin.tv became a springboard for numerous cameras, including iJustine, Office Cam, wild949, filmmaker mooncricket, bubblicious, Hooman, RideShare (Justin Shattuck) and mlfnow.
