Danah Boyd
Danah is the queen of researching identity construction and interaction in online social networks. Her affiliations have ranged from MIT to UC Berkeley; apophenia is the primary splash page for her website and blog; in conference papers, i regularly quote from her work, most of which she makes freely available online.

Great entry, trish. My area of academic research is also online identity construction (although I focus on women, specifically). I have quoted danah's work, as well, and think taht we should be focusing much more research in this area.

just checked out danah's blog...very cool...i would think that anyone on gleamd would benefit from reading research about how we construct identities and social families through these kinds of sites. as opposed to a social network, gleamd seems to be headed in the direction of not only encouraging those who are doing great things but showing who we are by telling others what we value on the internet...i bet this would be interesting research for danah!
